Day 35: Swim fitness class

Image result for Juniper swim and fitness

I'd been promising myself some visits to the Juniper Swim and Fitness Center.  In the summer, it's my employee benefit to get in free.  In the winter, I do the ten visit pass. Swim classes for adults go on all morning, with a few hours set here and there for challenged students from the schools and physical therapy for severely handicapped adults.
I went at a good time--the locker room was empty.  The class I went to was "Win With Water!" An exercise program done in the therapeutic environment of the water. Designed for individuals looking to step back into health and win with wellness. Beneficial for people with chronic conditions.

It was a water walking class, with some deep water activities midway, and it lasted for about an hour.  Afterwards, I visited the hot tub, steam room, and sauna, and then headed home.

Day 34: Bank view

January  25

Another walk to the bank, this time on the west side of Third Street.  The sidewalks are few and short, the parking lots are crowded, and the paths by the shrubbery patches are narrow.  At times, I was walking in the bike lane.  I was glad to get to Powers Road, where I went over to the east side and continued from there.  Did my yoga before I went, and repeated some moves when I returned.

My reward for the trip was a clear view of the snow covered Cascade Mountains over the large empty field between Goodwill and Wal-Mart, from Mt. Bachelor to the  Three Sisters, and beyond on both sides.

This is a photo from the internet, naturally.  Not quite what I saw, but still....

Day 33: Juniper in the cold

 January 21

I returned to Juniper Park, and walked a mile.  The ground was thawing but there were large patches of snow and ice on the path, and a couple of times I lost my way, and once or twice I slipped in the slush.  The restrooms were closed for the season, which I think was a first.  In the past, only one stall in the women's was closed, but given the abuse the restroom has in the summer, it made sense to close it for the winter.  I was the only one in the park.  It took time getting over the ice, but I had plenty of other walking during the day, and so made my half hour.

Day 32: Catch up

Okay, I've been gone awhile.  The bad weather hit, the holidays came, etc.

I continued to do yoga, missing some days. I walked to the store. I did stair laps, carrying groceries up to the apartment. I took short walks, including the new pedestrian walkway from Miller's Landing, under the Colorado Bridge, to the edge of the Old Mill District and back. I walked to get the mail. I walked to the office, checked out the exercise equipment, and walked back to the apartment.  When I drove places, I  parked away from store entrances and the library.  I walked in and around Fred Meyer.  From the grocery door, around the building perimeter, past the apparel entrance, over to the home and back again is almost 10 minutes, which is very good to know when it's icy and blowy, but I felt that what I did really didn't add up to thirty minutes on any one day, and thereby did not justify any blog accounts.

Today, I did yoga and some free weights exercises, and then headed out the door at about 7:20 a.m..  First, to Fred Meyer and back for a few items, I don't know the distance, and the parking lot was icy, so I didn't count the time, and then from the apartment to the south Sonic, which is one mile away, by the Wal-Mart parking lot.

There wasn't much in the line of traffic at 8ish on a Saturday morning, but the exhaust fumes were strong and it seemed as if there was an inversion going on, even though there was a breeze.  I walked quickly and did not feel the cold. The sky was over-cast with a solid gray blanket that hung just above the tops of the Ponderosa trees.  The sidewalks had been cleared, but some more snow had fallen since then and had mostly melted.  There was a bit of gravel on the sidewalks, but not enough to prevent the occasional small slip.

Sonic was empty, except for the employees.  I got the breakfast to go then walked the mile back at the same pace.  I got to the apartment as the rain started to sprinkle and ran up the stairs to my door, not winded at all.  The sandwiches were still warm when my husband and I sat down for breakfast.
